The 5th largest Island in the Mediterranean is the Island of Crete. It is the largest of the Greek Islands covering some 8261 sq. km. Northern Crete is the most built up part with it's capital city Iraklio lying in the Northeast. Many of the South and West coat are still unspoilt and more peaceful and secluded. Crete itself boasts an abundance of sandy benches, monasteries, mountain villages and gorges.
